Hi Everyone,
There are some great things coming to the Hudson River Music Hall.  On Saturday 2/25 at 7pm on 10 Maple Street in Hudson Falls we’ll be hosting a Birthday Bash for George Harrison (click here to view the event poster).  HRMH has put together “The Dirty Harri Band” to celebrate the beautiful music of ‘the quiet Beatle’.  Musicians include Marc Clayton, Gisella Montanez Case, Jonathan Newell, Linda Fayte, Tom Brady, Sara Adamson and an orchestra of acoustic guitars performing classics like ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps’,  ‘Here Comes The Sun’, ‘Something’ ‘My Sweet Lord’, and many more songs from his post Beatles material.  To highlight the uniqueness of George’s musical awareness, we have sitarist  and Skidmore College professor Veena Chandra and percussionist Devesh Chandra performing a set.  Tickets are $8/10.

GLENS FALLS — The grant money has been returned, but the need to help fledgling small businesses get started in Warren County remains, said members of the Greater Glens Falls Local Development Corp.

Members, at a board meeting Thursday, resolved to continue exploring whether the city-based economic group could operate a countywide “micro-enterprise” business financing and training program, which would provide assistance to businesses with six or fewer employees, with at least half the funding being used for start-up ventures.

Glens Falls Economic/Community Development Director Edward Bartholomew said supervisors of three towns in northern Warren County have contacted him asking if the city would consider operating a program.

Far less snow than usual has fallen this year, but that doesn’t necessarily equate to big savings in municipal highway departments.

Highway officials from Warren, Washington and Saratoga counties all said the recent string of “nuisance storms,” depositing just a dusting of snow and ice on the region, often costs just as much as a front that dumps 6 inches on the region.

“It’s the duration of the storms, and the frequency of the storms, that matter not the number of inches,” said Warren County Public Works Superintendent Jeff Tennyson.

BATTENKILL TIME TRADERS INFORMATION SESSION

Tuesday, January 17, 7 p.m. Proudfit Hall, 181 Main Street, Salem NY

What if you could get an hour (or more) of some service you need or want without having to pay cash for it? In exchange you’d offer an hour (or more) of something you’re good at and like to do. The concept is called time banking, or time trading.

For every hour of service given to any member a participant earns one hour, which can be traded for one hour of services from any other member of the time bank. Wide-ranging options for exchange are based on the members’ skills – computer help, rototilling, or keeping an elder company for example. It’s not barter on a one-to-one basis. The time trading system values everyone’s contributions equally.

Battenkill Time Traders, a group based in southern Washington County, is hosting an information session at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17 at Proudfit Hall (181 Main Street) in Salem NY (snow date Tuesday, January 24). At the introductory meeting coordinators explain how time trading works, and attendees have the opportunity to meet others in the group. Attendees learn how to begin their active membership and receive hours in their account when they complete membership steps. Bring a non-perishable donation to the food panty and earn an hour with membership.

Time trading is a simple idea that has powerful ripple effects in building community connections. For additional information, find us at http://battenkill.timebanks.org/ or on Facebook at Battenkill Time Traders, or call 518-288-5241.

Washington County 2012 Budget PUBLIC HEARING

Thursday, November 17th, 2011

Tomorrow at 10:05 a.m. in the Supervisor’s Chambers at the Washington County complex there is the last PUBLIC HEARING for the 2012 budget.

If you support, benefit, work with or find value in the Washington County LDC services.

WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT.

Not much was cut from the proposed 2012 budget…but yesterday in the meeting it was proposed to cut significant funding from the LDC’s proposed request…

Compare the chart below…and we’ve been doing it since 2009!!!  The only way to hold property taxes for residents and businesses is to increase the business tax base and promote sales tax opportunities.

The vote is tomorrow.

PLEASE UNDERSTAND …THE LDC handles all of the Planning services for the county, too.  Over the last four years, we have been cut to a breaking point.  We actually receive less funding for Economic and Community Development Initiatives (Including Lending access) than other contractors providing lesser services.  LOOK IT UP…Budget is on line at the County site…and you cannot make this stuff up!

PLEASE…come out tomorrow…and support us!  Voices make the difference and you being here tomorrow will help us to continue implementing, fostering and developing economic strategies for our county while also providing necessary services and lending opportunities to the greater business community!
